PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

1. Celebrate Project Completion - Mark the successful completion of seven community-based conservation projects in the Sehlabathebe National Park (SNP) Buffer Zone under the COMPACT initiative.

2. Official Project Launch and Commemoration- Formally launch the seven grantee projects funded through the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) to showcase their contributions to biodiversity conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

3. Promote Community Participation in Conservation - Highlight the role of local communities and civil society organizations in managing protected areas and integrating conservation with socio-economic development.

4. Commemorate International Mountain Day - Align the event with the global theme of International Mountain Day to emphasize the importance of mountain ecosystems and their sustainable management.

5. Strengthen Partnerships and Visibility - Reinforce collaboration among stakeholders—GEF, UNDP, national focal points, local authorities, and communities—while increasing visibility of the COMPACT approach as a model for transboundary conservation.

6. Showcase Conservation as a Driver of Development Demonstrate how conservation initiatives contribute to local and national economic development, cultural heritage, and community pride.
