Este evento tiene se realiza en marco al Día Internacional de las Montañas y tiene por fin fortalecer una red de colaboración entre organizaciones juveniles, instituciones públicas y ONGS, para concientizar,
compartir conocimientos con la ciudadanía de los proyectos que vienen ejecutándose en la cordillera Blanca en Áncash. Registro:

This event is held as part of International Mountain Day and aims to strengthen a network of collaboration between youth organizations, public institutions, and NGOs to raise awareness and
share knowledge with citizens about the projects being carried out in the Cordillera Blanca mountain range in Ancash.

Between rocks and ice: geology, conservation and mountaineering in the Himalayas.

  On December 12th, we will celebrate International Mountain Day with a presentation by geologist and mountaineer Luis Carcavilla at the Natural History Museum in Zaragoza, Spain. This event is organized by the Mountain Wilderness Spain association and the museum. In this talk, Luis Carcavilla will review the factors that influence the conservation of the Himalayas and its glaciers, describing their geology, landscapes, and culture, drawing on his experience from more than 20 trips to the region over the last two decades. As glaciers disappear, vulnerable mountain communities will suffer the most.

Mountain communities in developing countries are often among the world’s poorest and around half already do not have enough food for normal growth, development and a healthy life. Changes in glacier and snow melt rates affect their ability to grow crops and increase the risk of floods and landslides. Today over 15 million people globally are highly vulnerable to flooding from glacier lakes.
